Person-to-goods (P2G) and goods-to-person (G2P) are the two major approaches for order picking automation technology. For organizations, particularly those with large warehousing and fulfillment operations, investing in the technology is a significant business decision.
Both options carry benefits. P2G requires lower CapEx, can integrate with existing warehouse infrastructure, is deployable with minimal warehouse downtime, and is very easy for workers to learn to use. But G2P also has a major advantage: it can often offer higher throughput with fewer workers.
Large companies planning to make a significant investment in smart logistics should undertake thorough research to weigh the pros and cons of each technology for their particular operation. This is not a sector where one size fits all and the right solutions may vary across different facilities within the same organization.
